My Story: From Fat to Fit

I have been overweight most of my life. When my baby brother died of Trisomy 13 ( a genetic disorder) I defaulted to comfort eating. To make matters worse I was extremely sedentary and I had no motivation to lose weight. Every year at my physical exam my doctors told me to drink less juice and cut out the soda. I ignored their advice. My biggest obsticle was myself.

At 13 years old I weighed 225 lbs. and I was 5’7″. My BMI was 35.2 ( an obese BMI) And I was pre-diabetic. My bad cholesterol levels were high and I had fatty liver. My body was falling apart.

In January 2016, I visited a naturopathic doctor (ND) and she did something that no other doctor had done. She finally motivated me. That had been my problem. I had no motivation. I left that appointment in anger. Not at her. Not at the other doctors. But at myself. Something snapped inside of me. The following morning I arose early and began a workout called HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). Using free YouTube videos made by FitnessBlender I exercised every day. This 15-30 minute workouts stripped me of all of my excuses.

In addition to these intense workouts I followed the Mediterranean diet. This diet focused on fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. It excluded: corn, sugar, large amounts of red meats, and processed food.

In conclusion after about 6 months I had shed 25 pounds. I returned to my doctor in September of that year and she said that I was no longer overweight, pre-diabetic, or had fatty liver. I had won the battle of the bulge.

My goal in starting this blog is to help teens and adults motivate themselves to get fit and to help those who are on the road to being fit. No amount of harassing, nagging, or evidence will motivate you. The change must come from inside you.
